Nova Cabaret
Classes and Productions
Winter through Spring 2026
Hello Nova Dancers of Cabaret Atelier!
Wow! Look how much we have grown over these past two years!
Thank you to each of you who have poured so much time and love into this studio and these showcases. Your artistry, curiosity, and dedication have made this dance studio what it is today- and we are all incredibly proud of that.
As our studio continues to grow, we are making some changes that will help us better support dancers at every stage of their training, create clearer pathways for growth, and expand performance opportunities—while keeping class sizes, casts, and creative workloads sustainable for our instructors and production teams.
To better serve both students and instructors, we are introducing a clearer Levels system and defined Performance Pathways within the NOVA program, each aligned with specific styles, training goals, and seasonal showcases.
Levels
-
Most people start here!
These classes are for students with no prior experience, or who are returning after a long break. Learn how to learn movements to music, and how to feel comfortable in a dance class. Our goal is for you to feel safe and supported to learn, grow, and try something new. Some students take classes here for 1-2 sessions, some train here for much longer. We are here to meet you where you are at.

Now that you are introduced to the basics, lets train in the foundations! Dancers may stay at this level for 1-2+ years and this is normal and encouraged.
Some prior adjacent experience or starting with an intro class is recommended.

-
Advanced Beginner dancers typically have 1–2+ years of regular training and are ready to take their training to the next level.
In choreography classes, dancers at this level are expected to:
Learn choreography in class and arrive the following week able to perform it without following the instructor or other dancers
Practice outside of class and use video review to identify questions and self-correct
Ask specific questions when something feels unclear, rather than waiting for external correction
Receive and apply feedback without repeated reminders
About pacing at this level:
Choreography moves faster and may feel quick to follow in the moment, but the steps themselves remain accessible—the challenge comes from pace and retention, not advanced technique.
Foundations classes move at a faster pace because dancers are expected to have strong familiarity with Level 1 material and comfort with the core fundamentals.

Typically ~3–4 years of consistent training
Early Intermediate dancers consistently meet Advanced Beginner expectations and are now expected to dance with presence, confidence, and accountability.
At this level, dancers are no longer focused on whether they know the choreography, but on how they are performing it.
This level is defined by:
Confident use of facials, texture, and performance energy
Full commitment to movement choices (no marking or tentative dancing)
Consistent accountability: arriving prepared, engaged, and focused every week
Early Intermediate is the point where dancers move from independent execution to intentional performance.

Intermediate dancers usually have 5–6 years of regular training and demonstrate a strong, embodied technical foundation that clearly elevates their movement quality.
At this level, technique is visible in every choice—not just known, but ingrained.
Dancers at this level typically:
Execute choreography with precision, clarity, and ease
Show strong alignment, control, and consistency rooted in foundational training
Demonstrate technique that enhances movement quality (often informed by ballet or formal technical training)
Work toward advanced skills while maintaining clean fundamentals
Perform with musicality, clarity, and confidence across styles

FAQ
-
Levels are not a judgment of talent or potential, or about ranking dancers. They are a tool we use to meet dancers where they are and to set clear expectations. Clear expectations help everyone learn more effectively and reduce confusion, frustration, and hurt feelings.
-
Placement is based on current skills, consistency, and readiness, not just years of experience.
A good starting point is to ask yourself:
Can I meet the core expectations of this level consistently?
Do I leave class mostly building and refining, rather than trying to keep up?
Am I able to learn, retain, and apply feedback in the way this level expects?
If you’re unsure, that’s normal. We’re happy to help you choose a level, and instructors may offer placement guidance to make sure you’re set up for success.
If a class consistently feels overwhelming or unclear, it may be a sign that a lower level would offer more support. If it feels under-challenging, you may be ready to move up. Our goal is to place you where you can learn effectively and confidently.

Many dancers fall between levels, and that’s okay. You may be encouraged to train in different levels depending on the class type, focus, or your current goals.
Performance Pathways
Introducing Performance Pathways—focused training tracks aligned with specific styles, artistic goals, and seasonal showcases. Performance Pathways allow dancers to spend more time mastering fundamentals, diving deeper into a concept, and developing choreography with intention over time. By training within a shared pathway, dancers build stronger cohesion, confidence, and artistry—making the entire process more immersive and rewarding. This structure also allows us to stage work more thoughtfully across the year, ensuring that each showcase has a clear identity and that dancers have the time and space to truly inhabit the work.
Each NOVA class choreography will be developed for and featured in a specific seasonal showcase. Auditions may be required for certain classes. To support focused training and sustainable production, NOVA students may be cast in a maximum of two (2) seasonal showcases per academic year (September–June), unless otherwise approved by the Show’s Production Team.
Dancers who performed in OBSCURA may choose one of the following upcoming shows. Dancers who did not perform in OBSCURA may participate in up to two shows: APHRODITE (Feb 20-21st), and either VEIL of SECRETS (May 1-2nd) or BLOOM (June 5-6th).

Heels Choreography Levels 1.5-2
6- Week Session with Kaitlyn MacCoy
Wednesdays Jan 7th - Feb 12th
7:30-9PM | $150
Heels Choreography (Levels 1.5–2) is designed for dancers who are ready to deepen their technique, confidence, and range in heels. This choreography is designed as a challenge and teaching tool to refine your execution of heels dance, focusing on posture and alignment, weight shifts, pivots, and transitions while moving safely and powerfully in heels. Each class begins with a warm-up to activate our feet, ankles, glutes, and core to build strength, control, textural awareness, and confidence with level changes and traveling patterns. Students will develop their musicality, stamina, and choreo retention while enhancing their presence and command, pacing, and expression in performance.
This class centers embodied sensuality, presence, and intentional movement, with layered progressions to support growing dancers. It is a space to refine technique, ask questions, and develop your personal relationship with heels movement. Expect to leave class feeling challenged and empowered, with tools you can carry into future choreography, performances, and personal practice.

6-Week Session
with Aida Endeavor & Jovanny HincapieTuesdays Jan 6th - Feb 11th

Chair Choreography Levels 1.5-2
6-Week Session with Moulin Roo
Mondays Jan 5th - Feb 10th
7:30-9PM | $150
Chair Choreography (Levels 1.5–2) is designed for dancers ready to deepen their movement quality and physical control. This class treats the chair as both partner and prop, focusing on strong core engagement, grounded weight shifts, and confident transitions on, around, and through the chair.
Dancers will work through technical drills that build core strength, leg engagement, and joint stability to support slides, balances, rotations, and on and around the chair. Choreography emphasizes dynamic textures—slow control, sharp accents, and fluid pathways—while developing musicality, stamina, and choreo retention. While movement vocabulary may be new or challenging, we’ll layer progressions to support dancers with growing experience. Expect to build confidence, sensual presence, and intentionality while learning to move with strength, precision, and expressive power.
