FAQs

What if I have never danced before?

We offer dance classes for individuals of all experience levels, including complete beginners! Each session includes beginner-friendly options designed for those who are new to this style of dance, returning after a break, or completely new to dance altogether.

Our goal is to create a welcoming and supportive space where everyone can move, grow, and express themselves. If you’re unsure which class to take or have any questions, feel free to email us—we’re happy to help you find the right fit!

What should I wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move freely! Some dancers prefer leggings and a fitted top, while others enjoy wearing leotards, bodysuits, or flowy pieces.

For floorwork classes, knee pads are required to protect your joints and help you move comfortably.

What about footwear?

In most classes, dancers wear socks, ballet slippers, or bare feet.

For Jazz Funk & Boyleque, sneakers are recommended as you will be doing some high impact footwork.

For Heels Classes, Heels are always optional—socks, bare feet, or sneakers work just as well! If you do choose to wear heels, see our guidelines below to make sure your footwear is safe and supportive for dance.

What kind of heels should I wear for class?

Your safety and comfort come first! Please make sure your shoes follow these safety recommendations:

  • Shoes should have ankle and toe support - avoid platforms or chunky heels.

  • You should feel stable but not squeezed; your toes should have room to spread

  • Make sure you can lift your toes - if you cannot, the heel is too high.

  • Many dancers wear Burju heels (around 3-3.5”, skinny heel, lace-up ankle boot). This style can also be found on Amazon.

  • A 2.5-inch character shoe or beginner dance heel is perfect for new dancers.

Are there performance opportunities for dancers?

Yes! Cabaret Atelier produces showcases that feature dancers from our NOVA performance track.

Showcase Eligibility

To be eligible for Cabaret Atelier Showcase, dancers must:

  • Attend at least 6 ‘Level Up’ training classes in addition to NOVA choreography sessions.

  • Complete these requirements before each showcase cycle (your quota resets after every show)

  • Be active participants in class and demonstrate knowledge of the choreo

Attendance in ‘Level Up’ classes will be considered during casting prioritization for upcoming shows.

If you’re unsure which classes count toward your quota, or if you’d like to request an exemption, please email cabaretatelier@gmail.com or message Cybele directly — we’ll make a plan together.

Dancers may also have opportunities to perform at Vaudvillingham and other local events to gain stage experience.

What if I’m nervous to perform?

Performing is completely optional! There is never any pressure to step on stage. Our classes are designed to build confidence, whether you are here to perform or simply dance for joy.

What is your refund policy?

All class and event purchases are final—we do not offer refunds. If you’re unable to attend a class you’ve booked, please check our rescheduling options or reach out to discuss possible alternatives.
